Alphabet. Start with the basics, literally like keyboard letter. Once you have that down, then add to it from there. That goes from tags all the way through to pieces.

I think you need to start at the basics as a foundation and move on from there.

I can read it if that's what you mean. Don't try to rush style. Your style will evolve over time from a base you get comfortable to start off with. If this is your base, then I would advise starting again.

If you have been writing a while, then you need to take crits from other writers and listen to them, NOT people who care about you because they won't want to hurt your feelings.

The BEST advice I'd give is print off a bombing science alphabet challenge sheet. (Pretty sure you can still print it.), and do the alphabet. Then add to it from there. That would be the best way to improve, as well as see progress to start with and find your base.

Thank you so much and I'd rather have advice than not improve so I really appreciate the time taken to reply to me.

    No problem

100% yes man. That's good. Now learn about additions you can add to lettering. Add different angles and bars, flares etc to make it flow.

You now have a base to work off!

Don't change it too much, and when you get good criticism you know it looks good, keep trying to push it further. Don't go further until you know its not toy. And to know whether it's toy, don't worry you'll know or be told.

Could you give me a few ideas for additions to the letters?

I like writing random words and names. I used to practice on printer paper with a regular ballpoint pen for hours practicing my handstyle filling up pages like these (I usually fill up the page more. It's pretty meditative too. Make sure you write using your arm instead of your wrist. It's a skill that will help you to scale up your handstyle. Difficult but worth it. You can also try using lined paper and making your tags 2 lines tall to help with height consistency but there's a million ways you could experiment with height variation so do whatever like.
