I just finished 1984, and the ending bothered me as well. I was left very unsatisfied, I was expecting so much more up until about Part III hits. The whole conversation parts, and especially the last two chapters made me realize nothing really exciting was going to happen, and the ending was totally the opposite of what I wanted to happen. (I'm trying not to spoil anything for people that might want to read it)

But I guess that was the intended feeling that the reader was supposed to get? I dunno. It was great and all, just left me feeling very strange after I was done.

anybody here read old Sci-Fi novels?

its astonishing how accurate some of the things H.G Wells wrote about turned out to be....

    but yeah,

someone suggest me some good sci-fi/fantasy/horror thats fairly recent.

im getting bored of reading books from the 1800's haha.

    peace.

i hate reading 1984 because everytime i do i get really paranoid.
i've never finished it.. i've tried reading it like 10 times since i was a teenager.

i just read art against authority that was pretty good.. it's got an interview w/ gee vaucher for all crassheads...
the giver is a good book too. i had to read that in highschool.
    lord of the flies too.
one of my favorite books when i was younger was book of lies.
animal farm is good. diary of a drug fiend. tao of jeet kune do.
    black elk speaks.

    lotttttsa Bukowski
    lotttsa Palahniuk
and i'm kinda gettin into William S. Burroughs
i haven't read anything by Hunter S. Thompson yet, but i really want to

currently reading The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner by Alan Sillitoe, All the Pretty Horses (for school) by Cormac McCarthy, and Diary by Chuck Palahniuk

and to the Palahniuk fans, they made a Choke movie. the trailer makes it look like it shouldn't disappoint.

by far, favorite author is Bukowski though. simple ass style, and even though half his stories lead absolutely nowhere, they're still great. and his poetry is insane.
