Seems like you are having a bit of an identity crisis. I mentioned to someone in a different post, that graff especially in vandal form isnt for everyone. And I also dont think you having the same graff name is a huge deal, especially if your in a different city and ESPECIALLY if that other person dates back to the subway graff days which would be like pre-1990's. Lastly, you dont have to participate in graff to appreciate it. If its something you enjoy, then enjoy it from afar. You dont have to inject yourself in a lifestyle that may not suit your personality but, you can still be a fan and support.
That's dedication man. Banged out 5 pieces. Nice. I like your colour choice in the 4th one. Also your tri-colour shadow in the 5th is cool too.
I like to bang out a bunch of simple sketches while I work on a big piece so I don’t get bored with one thing
To be honest man, if I crit this then I feel like I'm nit picking. I really like it. Nice work! All of it. .
I'd like to hear it anyway if you want to, it feels like I'm stuck doing the same couple of tricks over and over again
I see what your saying with same tricks, but you would be surprised how many good writers do the same style over and over. You can stretch it to even say some can't even paint, because all they do is write on paper. But there still great at what they do, and there happy. I like to challenge myself and always do different styles. I could almost go as far to say I don't even have a set style. I just go with what I'm feeling. And I'm also not as good at writing what I think, but that comes with practice. What I'm trying to say is there's elite writers who only write the one way. But switch it up when it get boring. You have two good templates to work on. I love your second Salem and Damien style. It's dope.
Practicing simple letter structure and flow. It would be better if I fitted the letter 'i' after the letter 'h' and everything would of flowed nice. Sketch was done on 9"×12" Canson mixed media using Molotow markers. Let me know what you guys think!!
Nice work man. I think it looks good. Only crit for me would be your "A" is different in terms of style from the rest with the left leg cut off like a 4. I would of maybe done the same on a few of the other letters then, not just the one. .
Congratulations my man. daughters rock. life has purpose now, things are clearer, welcome to the second chapter of your life.
For folks just starting or trying to get their footing in graff I always suggest learning the basics. Literally, go back to kindergarten and that is not an insult but, a practical way to learn by breaking things down in the most basic way. Having that said, when creating graff, always remember, in essence, what writers are doing is creating fonts and all fonts are created in a mathematical way. Usually done with various guidelines and/ or grids. The objective of going back to kindergarten stems from the concept of creating letters that are in the same size, control, flow, style etc. Graff is just an exaggeration of that practice but, its only when we have a firm grasp of those fundamentals can we flex our creativity. So, with that said, if I moved the letters onto parallel lines, the inconsistency would be apparent. Also, as a traditional artist, I always like to use the rule that what Im making should make sense. Even if the subject matter is fantasy. The idea is that the brain has an easier time digesting that information, which is why we see cartoons of animals that have human limbs and so forth. We like what we can relate to. So, if your going to add "something", make sure its not coming out of thin air, now this concept doesnt apply to every style BUT, as my art teacher would say "you first need to learn the basics before you bend the rules". Lastly, and I know this is something many of us say over and over but, watch videos and other folks art pages but, just dont look at them, analyze them. Dissect what the artist is doing and pay attention to why. This isnt something that is done at a glance but, is accomplished by thinking while scanning the image and having conversations with yourself. And as odd as it seems, having those conversations with yourself out loud is even better! (altho you may seem crazy) but, humans learn better or retain information better when they read and listen. Hope this helps. Good luck. Keep on working!
Alphabet practice, kinda wonky at times, trying to make them in the same style. Let me know what you all think of this gothic style
