chet baker live in paris and nice amazing amazing album. for a long time i was stuck on anything mingus.. the nimblist fingers. its hard to even start on what i like in jazz. i was a fiend for like 3 years.. jazz in and jazz out. (and mind you.. when im a fiend about something musical.. its pretty fucking serious)
aight ...so no one knows/ no one cares/ no one is down, HOOOORAY anyways the answer is: That song uses a sample played by....Thelonius Monk!
Yes! Chet Baker was awesome. I have "Live in Tokyo '88," and it kills me every time I listen to it. For an old druggie on his last legs, that cat could blow! Holy crap. His stuff with Gerry Mulligan is fantastic. Can't believe that guy died by falling out of a window. What a way to go...
Ella Fitzgerald Duke Ellington Lena Horne sarah vaughan Billie Holiday Dinah Washington Not many but those are the only ones I can think of right now. The music is in m4a format though, just giving you a heads up.
Go to free.napster.com and you can listen to complete albums for free. Here are some jazz must-haves: Miles Davis Kind of Blue (generally thought of as the greatest jazz album of all time...Abstract, when you're listening to this, keep in mind that these guys were making up practically every note as they went, having no real idea of what they were going to play next. Total improvisation.) Miles Davis Milestones Charles Mingus Mingus Ah Um Dave Brubeck Time Out Anything Chet Baker did with Gerry Mulligan Early Herbie Hancock stuff, like from before he was with the Headhunters Blossom Dearie Once Upon A Summertime I know I'm skipping a lot. Church, I'll check that album out. Thanks for the tip.
